I still recommend converting it to a ePub. Why? It's annoying to switch back and forth from PDFs and normal books. If transferred,? it just saves the file as a book.

FOLKS, QUESTION: I write children's books and i've converted all my picture books to iBooks, I am wondering in all honesty - your own personal opinion, do you feel kids are truly reading books on iPads? (Kindles, Nooks) If not now - do you really feel kids, schools, parents, will convert to e-readers? Had some pdf files I was unable to convert because they were protected. Opened up iTunes, clicked on books under the top tab (Libraries) and dragged and dropped? the pdf into the folder. Synced right to my iBooks on my iPad.

This is primarily an eBook reading device using the latest eINK screen technology /w 16-tone greyscale. Most books written? for adults are just black text on white or off-white pages. An eINK screen is perfect for this, and, unlike an LCD screen, draws no power until you change the display image. However, I read that someone is developing a color eINK screen.

Try both. Each has it's +s and -s. The Kindle Touch has problem /w positioning cursor when editing notes. The Sony provides several fonts, but only the "Original" font displays italicized text properly; /w the other fonts, it's "now you see it, now you don't." Amazon & Sony admit these are bugs. I suspect they can prob. be fixed in firmware updates. I'm using Sony firmware v.1.0.04.12210 & Kindle Touch firmware v5.0.4.? No ETA when these problem will be fixed.

I don't like trying to scroll up or down while in landscape or zoom mode. The PDF isn't locked in and the Reader thinks you are trying to move it. It is only for a second but it can be really annoying. Especially, when you need to do this on EVERY page. See :50 (But for $199 vs $499, it? will have to do.)

Harper Collins was definitely pretty clumsy with this. I've ordered a few books I plan to read a lot with "library/school binding" off of Amazon, and those things, I swear to God, are for all intents and purposes indestructible. 26 uses is a joke; these things are? made to last pretty much indefinitely. A lifetime warranty is not unrealistic at all. The bindings are sewn and glued, the covers are very solid, and the pages don't come loose easily at all.

Don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but let's not forget that while paper books can be read for as long as they stay in roughly? one piece (and you know the language), ebooks are wholly format dependent. Even EPUB probably won't be the standard for long. So what is the real shelf life of an ebook likely to be? Let's not naively treat them as everlasting.

For-profit corporations, which HC is, are ***legally mandated*** to maximize shareholder value which 99.999% of the time means profits. They don't have to be right and they certainly don't have to be moral. Let me add that the authors I deal with actively support lending systems, including the Kindle and Nook sharing (though we disagree with Amazon's strong-arm practices in general), eLibWise, and? several others. We actively encourage owners of proprietary readers to form buddy buying groups to lower the price they spend on books. What does that do for us "greedy authors?" Not a thing. It cuts the money we make. There is middle ground here, and I would be overjoyed to have a reasonable discussion.

Duh... You have access to a print book as long as it lasts, but the fact is, today's books are not as lovingly crafted as those 70 year old books. Wish they were. You think the geographic restrictions you? deal with are bad. Let me introduce you to a few more. When I sell an ebook title at Amazon, Amazon shortchanges me half of my royalty if someone overseas purchases the book. Why? No reason that makes sense to me, but that's what they do. You can bet they still get their full price on it.

Someone mentioned above that it's about protecting a revenue stream. That is both close to true and completely off base. It's not that authors are against REASONABLE sharing. We're not. The problem is, there is a middle ground between librarians wanting limitless sharing on something that doesn't wear out and 26? lends, which I AGREE is ridiculous for a library. So what IS reasonable? I'd go to 100 lends on a single ebook purchase at the price I sell them at.

It seems to me you have made a compelling case for why publishers should limit the number of checkouts for printed books. After all, their rationale for doing it for ebooks applies equally well to printed books, especially in loss of revenue to authors? who get no more than one payment.

Yours is probably the most? poignant comment of all. I think you should make a video review that points out how Barnes and Noble employees don't earn enough to buy a Nook reader. This reminds me of the people who harvest chocolate in third world countries in poor conditions for almost no wages and have never tasted a bar of chocolate in their lives. Scandalous, really. The Nook came with some preloaded books. There is also a free section at the bn site. If you shop the book section on the barnes and noble site you can get an idea? of what they cost. Another huge advantage to an e reader is the space it saves. You can keep thousands of books in one little device.
