Apple's iBooks reader and storefront app went live in the iTunes app store Monday. The update both adds support for the iPhone/iPod Touch running iOS 4, and also a number of new features over version 1.0 on the iPad.

FOLKS, QUESTION: I write children's books? and i've converted all my picture books to iBooks, I am wondering in all honesty - your own personal opinion, do you feel kids are truly reading books on iPads? (Kindles, Nooks) If not now - do you really feel kids, schools, parents, will convert to e-readers? If? you really need a keyboard and a mouse to use for work like school, then you'd be better off with a netbook. It's a whole lot cheaper and offers more standard features that are so easy to implement just like a Mac or PC.

No, it won't be near enough the same experience as a desktop PC. Make sure you know what you will be? using it for, research the features that it has as well as cons (the things it doesn't offer). Also, you won't be able to use a mouse unless you jailbreak it, something else to think about. Good luck.

you can either import as a pdf into itunes, or if you want full functionality (scaling? text, bookmarks, highlights, etc.) you can find a free pdf to epub converter online. there are plenty of good ones. reading the book however can not be done directly in itunes, you need an iOS device (ipod touch, ipad, iphone) to sync the books to.

The kindle app on the iPad's UI is not that nice, unless you? put it on portrait mode. The iBook app is slick and even on landscape mode it looks nice. Paper books are still the way to go, infinite battery life and you can hit it with the hammer without breaking the screen, lol.
