Wow, I remember when people used to be quiet in libraries, and whisper. Now, they have mobiles on all the time, have kids running around bursting balloons, and there are almost as many computers in them as books. I'm not kidding about the balloons either, and did I mention that they get people in to? entertain them by singing songs ... in a frickin' LIBRARY?!!!

It's? worth mentioning that this has kind of a 'shoe on the other foot' behind the scenes story. Frank Oz (Cookie Monster) often plays Bert who is often annoyed by Ernie in this kind of manner. When there's a blackout, Ernie keeps suggesting they do things that require electricity, and Bert has to keep explaining why they can't. And Richard Hunt usually plays characters like Forgetful Jones, Scooter, or Junior Gorg who would annoy and frustrate someone in this manner.

.. one of those instances where the voice, or a variation thereof predates the character. The sketch would definitely have me ducking and covering worse than an atom bomb! It was creepy enough whenever Ernie would pull of Bert's nose, but this sketch made that look tame. Didn't know who the voices were at the time, but looking back it was indeed Jim Henson and Frank Oz. Frank had such a range, from the high falsetto of Piggy, to the deep basso? gravel voice of Cookie Monster

Never saw that one. But the one I mentioned, originated around 1973 or 1974, about the same time as this Cookie Monster Sketch you've uploaded. But I think they stopped running the "Blank Muppet Lady Sketch" in the '80's. It was probably? deemed to scary and spooky for young children. Might have been more appropriate for a late night appearance of the Muppets, but not for a daytime children's show aimed at kids 2 to 6. As far as the lady voice, it was like Piggy, but slightly deeper...

Never saw that one, but just hearing about it is creepy. How do some of these things get through on a show for getting children ready for school? And there are rumors on the web about? a story from Sesame Street that was so frightening it was banned after only a few showings. A girl saw cracks in her wall. A first they turned into friendly animals. But then one turned into this horrible monster who called himself Crack Master.

I don't think he really died, I think he merely fainted. However, I would have had him, in stead of passing out, put up an "I QUIT!" sign and then run through the wall! But I think you'd agree that he was more of a monster than Cookie Monster himself! Very? ornery, to say the least.
