In Theory Authors get a percentage markup, but there is a base price that the ebook retailer wants before you add that on, then they also raise their price in proportion to your profit, so suddenly your book gets too expensive, so in practice you reduce the profit considerably. Of course, you? may not sell any at all, unless you are well-known or spend a LOT of money marketing it.

In theory Authors get up to 75% with? some ebook retailers, it is difficult to put that much of a "mark-up" on anything, as they increase their volume price, meaning you simply price it out of the reach of most buyers, most ebooks are VERY cheap. The Author profit, depends on how many you actually SELL. Probably lucky to do one a month, unless you are well known, or pay 1000's for marketing. After 6 months and 4 books not yet made one red cent yet. Spent a lot doing it though.

:o) it is not "self-pity" - I am just trying to illustrate the point that (like musicians & film producers) it is disappointing when people use the internet to rip off work. I don't like to see people encouraging others to do the same. I guess they kind of feel it is? fair game for million selling authors & artists, but, for the struggling solo self-publisher it is a red rag to a bull. ... and don't get me started on marketing costs. ;o)

you pay that much for marketing fees and then you ask how many copies can you guarantee selling? ha ha. the question is how many copies do you sell? Don't pity yourself. If is not worth it than don't write it. and btw there is no guarantee in anything. and the prices for books are always higher than they are? worth.
